Click Here for Information on the Petzl E+Lite
I have One of Doug's Photon Freedom Micro led lights on each keychain.
Does anyone have the Petzl E+lite to compare the two.
I would like to know the size of the Petzl light compared to the Photon.
Any other info about this light would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Ok, I admit it. As a maker of fire, I suck.
Practicing my survival skills in the comfort of my home as a good little preparedness-er, I decided to see if I could get an ember "borrowed" from the fireplace to ignite a cotton ball (both with and without Vaseline).
Both smoked and smoldered like the dickens and charred as I cupped it and blew on it just like I've watched Les do on Survivorman.
What am I doing wrong?
I can get the Vaseline cotton ball (VCB) to catch fairly easily with my fire steel, but if I'm going to try this with an ember produced by a fire-bow or similar, I'm in for a cold wet night.
The cotton ball of course ignited and burned up almost instantly when tossed frustratedly into the fire itself so that shoots the "fire retardant" theory.

Following this story she has been missing since Nov 16, 2008 She told a friend where she was going but, changed her mind her car was found at a week later at a different trailhead.
Tell people where you are going and DON'T change your mind without informing someone

I'm about to buy the REI Storm-Proof Matches to keep in match safes. My question is, Does each match have to be wrapped? I have read some stories about matches igniting within matchsafes that get jostled around.

WARNING: Phony Glass Signal Mirrors A number of military, survival and outdoor gear distributors have recently introduced bogus glass signal mirrors, made in Taiwan, to the U.S. market. The mirrors look virtually identical to functional glass signal mirrors at first glance, but the retro-reflective mesh aimer is fake and does not work. Get all the details, including illustrations of how to make sure your glass signal mirror is real. www.equipped.org/phony_signal_mirrors.htm

Here's an attempt at an interesting article on the robustness of UK telecoms: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/11/28/wireless_survivors/
To summarise: mobile phones are not intended to be robust, but landlines are and ought to last 14 days without grid power or human attention. Their use might be restricted, though. The government has additional communications resources, and could use radio to inform the public.
The article doesn't say how long grid power itself could be expected to last. There is some valuable criticism in the comments section.
The context is a TV drama called "Survivors", about disease killing off 99.9% of the population. That production has virtually nothing of value to this site, in my opinion (and I think it's rubbish artistically, too).

I'm going through a wool "phase" and want to try out some wool clothing to compare to my synthetics. I've looked online and come up with "filson" and "woolrich" clothing which will require a second mortgage to get a few layers. Anyone know where i can get some cheaper stuff (I assume wool is wool, right?)
